You are bidding on this 8 1/2” tall pottery pitcher in good condition with no chips or cracks. Burleigh Ware/Burgess + Leigh. “ The Runaway Marriage” A romantic couple being married by the blacksmith of Gretna Green on base. “Gretna” impressed at top of handle. Verse on back of Pitcher. Two newspaper clippings glued inside speak of the number of runaway brides to Scotland dated 1961. Piece of paper inside speaks of the owners of this jug received it as a wedding gift 1925. Because they too ran away to Scotland to get married at Gretna Green.
